Hello, artsy peeps! And welcome to the cozy December Art Vlog. Today we’ll be making custom holiday cards with gouache paints. Now I have never used gouache paints before so was a little anxious to see how these would turn out. Throughout the video, I’ll talk about my experience so if you are new to gouache or thinking about it, hopefully, my experience can help you. I do want to apologize about the visual quality of the video, I had it on selfie mode. I thought my new tripod was just selfie mode but figured out that I can have it the other way. And figured it out after I finished recording the video 😭 So upcoming videos will definitely be a lot better quality. And I also wanted to post this vlog before Christmas but was late on that due to my demanding Full-time job. But Towards the mid-end of the video, I’ll be taking you guys to the San Marco Art Walk , discussing current events, sharing some exciting news about our artsy channel, decorating for the Christmas, and reviling next months art video for the new year! Time stamps will be below. As always sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Written version below if you choose to skip the video.

As an acrylic and digital artist, I was definitely curious to see how I would adapt to gouache paints. The vision I had was to make miniature 3 inch paintings to later glue on to a 5×7 card. I used heavy duty paper for the gouache since I was afraid it would bleed through the thin cards. Before starting, I wrote the ideas I had for the cards and narrowed my choices down. A bear receiving gifts from Santa, Christmas cake pops, Carousel horse, Ginger bread cookies in hot chocolate, a bunny eating candy, and my partners family dog eating a dog friendly candy cane. I took a deep breath and began to paint.
Immediately, I started using the paint like it was water colors which is quite rare for me. I’m more heavy handed. Was it the fear of messing up so I started lightly, who knows. I did watch a couple videos prior to using gouache and the thing that they all said was that the paint can reactivate itself with water which can be a blessing and a curse. If you plan on layering with your paint, just keep in mind that the first layer can be reactivated with water. So for some parts of the painting where it was a different color from the first layer, I did go a little bit more heavy handed with the 2nd layer or didn’t paint that area so it wouldn’t accidently mix. Every know and then, it did mix a little but wasn’t a big deal. I just waited till that area was dry and went over the “messed up” area with the right color I wanted. Either way I was really enjoy myself. The colors where still coming out quiet vibrantly. And the next day, I was able to reactivate the colors already on my palette! uncovered overnight and everything. Some colors that I did mix together, I didn’t have to remix the colors again! Unlike acrylic that may dry out if you leave it out for too long or don’t have it on a sta-wet-pallet. After finishing the painting, I cut them, shaped them, glued them to a complimentary scrap paper for the background, and put a heavy weight on them so they would adhere better over night. All in all, I’m quiet pleased with the results. I kept these painting extremely simple. I was definitely not being as uptight or annal about detailing or rendering these perfectly like I usually am. I didn’t really focus too terribly much about the forms or the exact composition because I would have probably spent weeks to up to a month if I was being my normal uptight self about it. I kept them easy and stayed in the moment with them. Some of these images you might be able to slightly recognize from, since I used Pinterest for some certain elements to these paintings. But theses are just for family members and not for selling. I used a crappy brush which I plan on buying better supplies next year. Once again was in the moment doing a fun Christmas craft to give to family. And I’ll definitely buy better painting paper too. If you like this idea for making holiday cards, please give them a try and let me know how it goes in the comments! For now lets continue our next journey to the San Marco art Show!
San Marco, Jacksonville Florida. Known for it’s lively hub with boutiques, gourmet eateries, and trendy bars. The neighborhoods here are also know for it’s old riverfront mansion. Quiet the beautiful town if you ask me! Today, they where hosting their 26th year art walk during the cold winter season. One day, I will be holding my art at this event. There wasn’t as many venders as I thought there would be but my partner and I still had a wonderful time never the less. We got to talk and chit chat with some of the amazing artists which was quiet wonderful. We talked mostly about goals, interests, and who we were about or from. Some even allowing me to vlog their work which I will put the artists info in the description. Ending the evening stopping by one of my favorite tea shops and eating out for a delicious meal!
For this holiday season, I wish my partner and I could have done so much more. We were late decorating this year but in the end, we did it. Better late then ever! We were also tight on money and really wanted to budget for Christmas presents to give to family members. I love decorating and expressing my creative vision through the magical Christmas holiday. Unfortunately, We were both extremely busy. With me, I work a full-time 8hr shift in the mornings and my partner having two part time jobs, decorating or even wanting to add more to this artsy vlog video was hard. I work in a retail store known for going all out during the holidays so working in customer service can be extremely challenging, busy, emotionally draining, and tiring especially during the Holidays. But I will definitely be making this my last year working in a corporate retail industry job for I’ve been in customer service for about 14 years now. I have the knowledge to create my own business and make my dreams into a reality. Which speaking of dreams, The exciting news I promise you guys is that I will be debt free and will be going part time at my job by the end of January 2025. Definitely a great way to start the new year. So what Exactly does that mean? Well that means I’ll have more time to work on my art, bringing more quality artsy content to the table, being able to post on time, merch, and all that good stuff. Eventually, I’ll be leaving my job, shooting for mid-summer but we’ll see where all this lands. The last thing I want to do is hurt myself financially.
For next months video, Since I didn’t have enough time to add it to this video, I will be making a new years videos about Setting Art Goals For The New Year and showing you guys goals from previous years just for fun. I keep them for my own amusement or reviewing proud accomplishments. But before we closing out, I just want to say thank you. This year, I made a vlog video for each month. An accidental goal that definitely wasn’t easy but was still able to make one for each month while working my full-time job. For those that left wonderful comments, liked, and subscribed to the channel, thank you so very much! A lot of time and energy does go into making artsy content. No pressure what so ever but if you are new to the channel consider liking and subscribing to the channel. It does help the weird Youtube algorithm reach more artsy peeps just like you! The goal is to make my passion into a full-time career. Making art brings me so much joy and happiness. And I want to keep making art content just like this. In doing so, I can bring more to the table for all you wonderful artsy peeps out there. Thank you so much for watching and I’ll see you artsy peeps next year! Happy Holidays!
