Have you ever had that feeling where you know you’re suppose to be finishing a project or commission yet you feel so uninspired, unmotivated, tired, or your mind is completely blank with no ideas? If you have, you are not alone! Today, I will be discussing what prevents you from being inspired then and how to get that inspiration back. In this blog post, please take everything I say with a grain of salt. these are just the stories and experiences that I have gone through and as always more than happy to share them. In the end, you need to do what’s right for you. So Sit back relax and enjoy.
The other day at work, I was asking a customer if he needed help finding anything. He said, “yes, where is your kombucha?” I walked him over and showed him where we kept it. I told him that I doubt that it has the mother in it. (the healthy bacteria that keeps your immune system strong) He said he use to buy kombucha from a lady that made the best homemade kombucha ever. He added on that she recently had to close her shop after the holiday (2023) due to not making enough money from it. He added on that you could just taste the love and passion that was in this healing potion. Hearing something like this absolutely breaks my hearts. Because my goal for everyone is to find what they love and to keep making abundance from it. I truly wish everyone in the world had the financial structure to do what they love fulltime, whether they were making money from it or not. I have no idea personally what this woman is going through there might be more to the story however, as an artist myself, I can not stress enough the importance of finances and wellbeing.
Money without a doubt can absolutely be a huge reason why you might be feeling uninspired, stressed, tired, unmotivated, and so forth. Sometimes even physical or mental health too. Or maybe your living situation and personal life is not where you want it to be. In the end, your passion is a way to escape reality. I’m not saying to stop taking responsibilities for you life, but what I am saying is that the thing that lights your soul on fire is your own personal gift. Your own blueprint. It’s something that should be nurtured and taken care of. Whether you are making money from it or not. It’s something that zones us out and brings us peace for just a moment. If you are someone that is going through a lot in your life right now whether that be mentally, physically, or financially, now is the time to really ask yourself some serious questions and take it one step at a time. Rome was not build an a day but at least it’s a start my dears ❤️ Near the end of the year, my mental health was not the greatest. I knew I needed help which I took one brave step in doing so. I am definitely feeling a lot better than I did. But it got to the point to where i said enough is enough and wanted to live my dream life. I’m still in pursuit of that! Another reason might be is that your passion has now turned into a job. That job has now turned into something that has completely drained you or now you hate it. which does happen and is completely normal.
My wonderful mother owned a mural and faux finish business. Some of my older videos on YouTube show me working for her business. She had always been an artist. I would always see her working on a project or creating something amazing. She graduated with an associates degree in fine arts at Kendell College Of Art And Design. I watched her go from being a scenic artist (when I was an elementary school) to owning her own mural and faux finishing business. The 20 year art business was a huge success but started to see her become irritable, hating what she did, and drained. After caring scaffold up three flights of stairs, who could blame her. It caused a lot of damage to her body. I watched her be in pain. Her love for painting and drawing declined. In 2018, she made that big step in closing the business and taking care of herself. I made a vlog video on it if anybody would like to watch it. Click Here For The Vlog She still is an artist today but is a different type of artist now. She is a landscape designer. I am so proud of her and I see how much happier she is. And who knows, maybe she’ll pick up a painting brush again. I truly believe that nobody ever looses their creative spark. Sometimes it just has to be morphed into something else. Your passion is truly a journey of self discovery.
Sometimes getting to the core of your wellbeing and healing is all you need in bringing back that passion again. I never feel burnt out from my passion because I listen to my needs and wants. Even when the work gets hard, I’m still enjoying myself and the process. Sometimes even changing up your materials too. I’ve had to start over on projects before because the paper was warping or your yarn might be really stiff and hard to work with that can prevent you from being inspired. That’s when sometimes its ok to abandon the project and take it as a leaning project. It’s ok to take breaks too and go back to the drawing board. If you’re working on a commission that’s giving you hell, just step away from it and take a small break. Ask for help or talk to someone close to you that will listen. Start becoming more solution oriented with the project. Communicate with your client if needed. Don’t take commissions you don’t feel 100% with or haven’t experimented with the materials yet. Choose you clients wisely. If you are still feeling uninspired it’s time to have some fun! Play on Pinterest, listening to music and daydream, look at clouds and take pictures of them, try and eat new foods, try cooking, getting on a healthy sleep schedule or eating better, try different mediums of art, travel or do mini road trips, decorate and get creative during the holidays. Go to art fairs or festivals to get inspired by other artist. Find like minded people that can understand what you are going through. Life’s too short artsy peeps. Do what makes you happy because you deserve to live a healthy and happy life.
Thank you so much for stopping by! My next blog I will be talking about too many projects or ideas. How sometimes we can jump from one project to the next without finishing what we started in the first place. Here’s The Vlog version on my YouTube! Enjoy
